LIV Golf launches new bid to join Official World Golf Rankings two years after first application rejected | Golf News
Liv Golf has made a new offer so that their events are eligible for official points in the world golf ranking (OWGR).
The escaped league supported by Saoudie saw its initial application to include OWGR rejected in October 2023, the offer abandoned five months later.
But the OWGR has now confirmed that LIV submitted a new request on June 30, which it would revise now.
“The OWGR Board of Directors is engaged in a process of in -depth evaluation of all requests,” said Trevor Immelman, the former Golfer who is now chairman of the OWGR board of directors, in a statement.
“LIV request will be examined in accordance with OWGR criteria to guarantee equity, integrity and consistency.
“We appreciate the interest of golf LIV – and all tours – by contributing to the world landscape of male professional golf via OWGR.
“Other updates will be provided as the examination progresses.”
In his own removal declaration, the director general of Liv Golf, Scott O’Neil, who replaced Greg Norman in the role in January, said: “Liv Golf has committed to work with the official global classification of the Golf and its board of directors to ensure that the best players are in competition in the most prestigious events of the game.
“We are convinced that our application addresses the unanswered questions that exist to take charge of a more global, global, global and precise classification system.”
Bryson Dechambeau is currently the best classified golfer Liv in 15th place, Jon Rahm having switched from the third to the 68th in the world since the transition to the beginning of 2024.
