The cricket will make its second Olympic appearance in Los Angeles in 2028 and the dates of the T20 competitions were unveiled with the flag football which also takes care of the stage.
The International Olympic Committee (CIO) has announced that T20 competitions for the male and women’s 28 categories will take place from July 12 to 29, 2028.
Medal matches will be held respectively on July 20 (women) and July 29 (men).
Six teams per sex will compete for medals, with 90 quotas of athlete allocated for each tournament, allowing nations to appoint teams of 15 members.
All the matches will be staged at Pomona Fairplex, about 50 km from downtown Los Angeles.
The format includes double heads on most match days, with lighting starts at 9 a.m. and 6.30 p.m. local time.
The qualification process for the six male and female teams has not yet been confirmed, but will probably be discussed at the CPI annual conference in Singapore, from July 17.
Meanwhile, the organizers have confirmed that the medal matches of sport for football flag will be held in the prime slots in their very first Olympic appearance.
The International Federation of American Football (IFAF), in partnership with the National Football League (NFL), has announced that the male and female medal matches are scheduled for Friday evening July 21 and Saturday afternoon, on July 22, at the BMO Stadium near the city center of Los Angeles.
“Football of flag will certainly be a hot ticket in matches,” said IFAF president Pierre Trochet. “We are going to be in a large stadium in the heart of the city and we will have fantastic players on the field with available NFL players.”
Flag football is a contactless variation of American football in which players carry flags attached to their size. Instead of tackling, defensive players must remove a flag from the bunge carrier to end a game. Sport is played on a smaller field with fewer players per side.
The inclusion of Football Flag in La28 follows a vote by the owners of the NFL allowing NFL players to participate in the Olympic competition.
