Luke Littler fuelled for World Matchplay by ‘hours and hours’ of practice, faces ‘fast’ Jermaine Wattimena next | Darts News
Luke Littler admitted that he had taken the hours to practice before his sensational victory for opening 10-2 against Ryan Searle in the matchplay World 2025.
Littleler lost against Michael Van Gerwen during his beginnings in Blackpool in 2024, but his projection against the “Heavy Metal” was simply spectacular. He had an average of almost 109, 126 payment and 5-0 whitenments during the first session, sending a declaration.
The reigning world champion is renowned for his lack of practice on the board of directors outside of tournaments, often not throwing darts between the stage.
However, Littler said that he was practicing “very hard” for the match match and that he is determined to add this major to his office.
If he does it, he completes the “triple crown” of Darting of the matchplay world, the World Darts Championship and the Premier League, which was only completed by Phil Taylor, Michael Van Gerwen, Gary Anderson and Luke Humphries.
“I was ready tonight,” said Littleler Sky Sports. “I just wanted to get this victory, have this feeling of victory and I did it. I am so happy to get this victory, to have this feeling of victory and I can’t wait to come back.”
“Whether I played well or not. I am satisfied with my performance, with the doubles, exchanged and changed with the 10 and the 16.
“The way I practiced 10 years did not go, but the 16 was there every time. Winning the world championships on double 16 is always in your mind.
“I felt very comfortable, I practically practiced myself. I just took hours and hours. I’m glad it’s paid.
“All eyes are on me now, I’m just going to take the game per game. I want to finish and finished. I’m just happy to win my first game, to feel this winning feeling.
“By practicing, I did as much as I did since I came on tour,” he added. “People will know that I am not an internship, but I certainly practiced for this one.”
The next step for Littleler is a confrontation against Jermaine Wattimena in the second round after the Dutch has passed a competition against Peter Wright.
With the two players renowned for their rapid launch, Littler knows that it will be a style of competition that will lend themselves to their two games.
“He’s another quick player, so it’s going to be very fast again,” he added. “It will both suit us. I can’t wait to come back to the stage.”
