Man City: Pep Guardiola unsure if Club World Cup will ‘destroy’ his team’s Premier League campaign | Football News
Pep Guardiola admitted that he did not know if the next challenge of the Premier League of Manchester City will be “destroyed” by their campaign of the Club World Cup or not.
England manager Thomas Tuchel recently said that the involvement of City and Chelsea during the tournament for this summer in the United States would give the tastes of Liverpool and Arsenal a “huge advantage” in the title race.
The former boss of Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp, also described the event as “the worst idea ever implemented in football” due to concerns about the well-being of players.
Guardiola, however, insists that City – who would face Al Hilal in equality at the last 16 in Orlando, Monday evening (2 am on Tuesday in the United Kingdom) – focuses on the retirement of their best after a frustrating season of 2024-25 and winning the prize.
“I try to relax, enjoy the days here and the good vibrations we have, the competition and we try to win it,” said Guardiola.
“The most important thing is to recover and find in us what we were. This is my main target in this tournament.
“I want them to feel that it is our way again to be competitive as if we have been in eight of the last nine years.
“After that, let’s see what’s going on. Let’s see what’s going on after the final. We will rest for the time that the Premier League will allow us.
“Perhaps in November, December or January, it will be a disaster, we are exhausted and that the World Cup has destroyed us.
“I don’t know, this is the first time in our lives that it happens. We will see when we come back.”
“ The teams complain about the tournament because they are not there ”
Guardiola says that he can understand the point of view of his former Klopp rival, now a world football chief for Red Bull, who had a team involved in the tournament in Salzburg.
However, he suggested that people complained could be jealous.
Speaking at a press conference, Guardiola said: “I fought a lot with Jurgen many times. I know where his idea comes from.
“I respect him, I also defended his argument. At the same time, as managers, we are in a job. We do not organize competitions.
“Once we are here, we are proud. Many, many teams complain about these competitions because they are not there, otherwise they could like to be here.”
PEP is not concerned with weather delays
Weather problems were a recurring problem in the tournament both in terms of intense heat and thunderstorms.
Chelsea’s victory in 16 years against Benfica on Saturday was suspended for almost two hours due to lightning in the surroundings.
Guardiola said: “I am an extraordinary manager but to control lightning and thunder, I’m still not good enough!
“If it is [suspended] Here, the same reason as why they suspend the other, I will enter inside and we will continue to be active and play again.
“This is not the ideal situation but I grew up to understand that I don’t worry about situations that I cannot control. So no problem.”
The best manager of the game pep, says Inzaghi
Al Hilal’s head coach Simone Inzaghi thinks he’s approaching the best manager of the Pep Guardiola match before the next team’s club World Cup match – but should have beat him in the Champions 2023 League final.
Inzaghi was in charge of the Inter Milan team that Manchester City of Guardiola beat in Istanbul to finish a glorious needle just over two years ago.
The pair met when Inter and City fought a tireless draw at the Etihad stadium last September and, after going to the Saudi outfit recently, Inzaghi is now preparing for another meeting.
The Italian said: “I believe that each trainer who is starting to train considers Guardiola an inspiration.
“I believe there was football before and there will be Guardiola, but he developed a new philosophy of football and a new way of playing.
“I think he is the best coach in the past 20-25 years and is an excellent example for us as a coach.
“Last year was an excellent match with the two teams that deserved a goal, but there was the last game in Istanbul when perhaps the deserving more and we were unlucky that Man City won.
“It’s a big team and we will try to perform a performance against a world class group.”
Inzaghi confirmed Captain Salem al -Dawsari – the goal scorer of the Saudi Arabia in his defeat in the shock of the possible champion of Argentina during the 2022 World Cup – and the former Fulham and Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, will miss the match by injury.
