Liam Farrell’s late snatched Wigan an exciting victory for 26-20 Betfred Super League after having an almighty fear from Castleford Tigers to the Mend-A-Hose jungle.

The Warriors rebounded by last week’s upheaval in Wakefield to rekindle the shield of their league leaders – they drag Hull Kr from the table table – but left it late after the local team produced their best display of the season.

The second row Farrell stormed the decisive test with three minutes to play after the penalty of teammate Adam Keighran, a few moments earlier, he had transported the level of visitors to 20-20.

Following a controversial potential penalty which was refused for the Tigers of Castleford, the head coach Danny McGuire said that he was “disconcerted” in the way his team received nothing against Wigan Warriors

Half of Wigan’s scrum, Harry Smith, seemed to bring Josh Simm back, but it was considered that there had been no sufficient contact to assign a penalty to Castleford.

McGuire said: “Everyone in the whole ground can see that it is a penalty. I look at something different if it is not.

“Certain decisions tonight were pathetic. Standard of officer and some of the things – that gets worse.

“Bring older guys like (Richard) Silverwood, (Steve) Ganson and (Russell) Smith, people like that. At least they had guts about them – they didn’t do everything but they had guts.

“They [Super League] Can tell me and I will reimburse them a book per week. It’s just not good enough, still not good enough. “”

How the game went

Castleford was rewarded for a pressure period with the game opening test, with Asi’s beautiful pass on the top by sending Tate in the area.

Wigan’s response was immediate while Wing Eckersley has exploited a gap at the bottom inside of his own half and his hot break was well supported by Field, which took the interior allowance to go near the posts, before Keighran converted to Edge Wigan 6-4.

Ecorsley got closer to the increase in Wigan’s advance, but its threat was smothered a few centimeters before visitors carried the tigers a major blow just before the interval when Keighran freed itself from its platform to extend the advantage of the Warriors to 12-4.

The tigers stormed two minutes after restarting, ASI died next to the posts for a brilliant converted score to reduce the deficit to 12-10.

The superb tackle of Tate on Ri’Chards Nsemba tested raised the house fans, then central Wood’s diving effort in the corner after the excellent aspius of Asi has lifted the roof.
