Max Verstappen: Red Bull driver says it would be ‘amazing’ to spend entire F1 career with team despite Mercedes speculation | F1 News

Max Verstappen says he always wants to achieve the “incredible” feat to spend his entire career in Formula 1 with Red Bull, despite speculation connecting the world champion to a move to Mercedes.

The future of the Dutchman dominated the preparation of the British Grand Prix this weekend after the Mercedes driver, George Russell, said last week in Austria that his own contract extension was retained by the pursuit by Verstappen by Verstappen by Verstappen.

Mercedes’ boss Toto Wolff then confirmed that he was in “conversations” to try to sign Verstappen, who is linked to Red Bull until 2028, but who has clauses in his contract which could allow him to leave the Milton Keynes team earlier.

Asked Thursday in Silverstone if he could imagine driving for another F1 team, Verstappen said: “I’ll say no, because if I say yes, people will make the headlines again, and that’s not what I want.

Sky Sports journalist, Craig Slater, explains everything you need to know about Mercedes’ interest in the world champion Verstappen

“I have always told the team that it would be ideal, and I think they think in the same way, to end my Formula 1 career with a single team.

“I think it would be something incredible, and that’s what we are still trying to achieve.”

“ It is difficult to continue to be in the fastest car ”

Verstappen won four successive pilot titles with Red Bull, but his remarkable sequence seems to end this year with McLaren dominant while the season is approaching halfway.

Oscar Piastri leads the Lando Norris teammate of 15 points at the top of the ranking, with Verstappen 61 points of the Australian in third.

In the midst of new rumors of Sky Italy according to which Verstappen is in talks with Mercedes, Martin Brundle of Sky Sports gives his opinion on the possible movement

With the relative lack of performance of Red Bull this season, there was also speculation that the team is behind Mercedes in the development of a new engine for 2026, when radically different regulations are presented in sport.

Requested by Sky Sports F1 Whether he is happy and satisfied with Red Bull, Verstappen said: “I think it’s a story in life because you can always see that the grass is always greener on the other side, that’s what they say, right?

“I think you must always stay calm and also enjoy what you do because, I think that so far, I have been very successful. This season may not be what we want as a team, but it can also happen. Sometimes just try to accept it too.

“So of course, other people make up more stories, but it’s not for me. I know what I have, I know what I can do, and that’s good.”

Before the British Grand Prix, George Russell says that he does not think that he will go anywhere despite rumors of Verstappen joining Mercedes

On the subject of knowing if he has to try to be in the fastest car of the grid, Verstappen added: “It is anyway difficult in Formula 1 to always try to be in the fastest car, because then you have to look to the future. Who would have known two years ago, would that be the case now?

“It is also something on which I do not really pass much concentration. I think that the only objective I have for the moment is simply to try to improve the situation.

“We are not where we want to be, I think it’s quite clear, but at the same time, next year can change again. So, even if you try to chase the fastest car now, it may not be the fastest car next year.

“This is exactly what F1 is. Sometimes you are lucky, you earn three titles from three-five-six-seven years, who knows? It’s also part of the game.”

Verstappen excludes f1 sabbatical

One thing that Verstappen certainly does not seem to consider, however, is a year on F1 in the midst of its other interests elsewhere in motorsport.

“F1 for sure,” said Verstappen, who recently contributed tests in GT Machinery and also has his own team.

“I will try, of course, in the future, combine it with any other possible race, which I can prepare, because I want to explore a little of Formula 1. Which I already do with tests but also with the race.”
