Mexico’ star emerges from coma following bacterial infection


Manuel Masalva, the Mexican actor who played the role of Ramón Arellano Félix on Netflix Narcos: MexicoShare a positive health update after being placed in coma medically induced for weeks.

In his first article on social networks since he contracted an aggressive bacterial infection, he revealed that he had ended up spending 105 days in a Dubai hospital. “I heal. I want to thank you deeply for the support you have given me and continue to give me, in all directions, to each of you,” he wrote. “More than ever I believe that unity is strength. This [process] Barely started, there is still a lot to do, but I feel blessed, strong, reborn and well accompanied. … God gave me a new chance of life. God gave me a new life. “”

He continued: “Today is 105 days, but I am awake, and the light has been raining since 81 [days] It took me to breathe fresh air, the thousands of people in this large hospital, where I was reborn, here in another culture, which exceeded us in love and spirituality. “”

Masalva concluded his note admitting that he does not completely understand “everything that is happening or just part of this”, but he feels very grateful at that time. “It was an eternity and it still lacks certain parts, I just want to thank the strongest that I can give to God, my family, my doctors and all those people who have supported me since the beginning of this process. I owe you all my life, without you and the hand of God, it would not be real,” he wrote.

In April, the Los Angeles Times reported that Masalva arrived in Dubai for the first time on March 18 after spending time in the Philippines, and in two days, he noticed on internal discomfort and pain. After the doctors discovered bacterial infection causing his symptoms, he underwent emergency surgery on March 26, but the next day, the infection had reached his lungs, which caused a medically induced coma.

“Doctors said Manuel responds to the treatment to attack bacteria and little by little, his body becomes stronger,” said Masalva agent Weekly entertainment at the time. “There are encouraging daily news and it will be a question of days or a few weeks before his state of health allows him to be removed and regain consciousness. For the moment, it is a question of waiting, because it is a slow process.”

Masalva has played in more than a dozen films and television shows, including Narcos: MexicoA fictitious series on the illegal drug trade in Mexico. The series, which ended in 2021 after three seasons, also presented Diego Luna, Michael Peña and Tenoch Huerta Mejía.
