Paul Simon cancels tour dates due to ‘chronic and intense back pain’


Paul Simon puts his health first.

The 83-year-old singer-songwriter and former member of the folk duo winner of a Grammy Simon & Garfunkel announced the cancellation of two concerts in Philadelphia during the weekend due to a physical illness.

“Paul fought with chronic and intense back pain,” read a statement published on Simon’s Instagram account on Saturday. “Today, it has become unmanageable and requires immediate attention.”

Following its affliction, the last two nights of Simon at the Philadelphia Academy of Music on June 28 and 29 were both canceled and complete reimbursements were issued to the participants.

“Unfortunately, we have to cancel these programs for the moment, because we do not have the opportunity to reprogram them,” continued the press release. “However, we hope after this minor surgical procedure which has been planned in the coming days, Paul will be able to finish the visit and seek to return to compensate for these dates.”

Simon launched his A quiet celebration Tour in April, two months after going on stage to play “Homeward Bound” with Sabrina Carpenter to Saturday Night LiveSpecial of the 50th anniversary. He should then perform on the terrace Theater of Long Beach, California, on July 7.

The news of Simon’s back pain intervenes less than two years after revealing that he had “lost most of the audience” in his left ear while recording his 2023 album, Seven Psalms.

“Suddenly, I lost most of the hearing in my left ear, and no one has an explanation,” he said at the British point of sale Time. “So everything became more difficult. My reaction to this was frustration and embarrassment; not yet completely angry, because I thought it would pass, it would repair itself.”
