Ringo Starr asked Sam Mendes for changes to Beatles biopic script

Ringo Starr is a question of peace and love – but that does not mean that he is afraid of repelling.

The legendary musician revealed that he had a few notes for Sam Mendes, the filmmaker who wanted to direct four separate films on each member of the Beatles. With each film that should follow one of the members of the group, Starr said THE New York Times That he spent two days with the acclaimed director, offering “extended notes” on the scenario on his life, especially when he came his relationship with his family and his first wife, Maureen Starkey Tgrett.

“He had a writer – a very good writer, a great reputation, and he wrote it big, but that had nothing to do with Maureen and me,” said Starr. “This is not how we were. I would say:” We would never do that. “”

Starr, who will be represented in the film by Salinburn Actor Barry Keoghan, married Tgrett in 1965 and divorced a decade later. They had three children together, including the former drummer of Who Zak Starkey, his son Jason and his daughter Lee.

After traveling the online script, Starr said he was now satisfied with the way he is represented – but has doubts about Mendes’ ability to deliver the four films by 2028.

“But he will do what he will do,” concluded Starr. “And I will send him peace and love.”

In May, Mendes went on stage in Cinemacon with the four actors taking place in his unconventional biopic project: with Keoghan as a Starr, the fans will see Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon and Joseph Quinn like George Harrison.

Mendes said in his announcement that separate films would allow the examination of “four very different human beings” in the group. Written by Tony Award’s winner Jez Butterworth (Ford against Ferrari, Specter), The winner of the Oscars Peter Straughan (Conclave, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) and the winner of the Tony Award Jack Thorne (Adolescence, Enola Holmes), the four films should arrive simultaneously in theaters in April 2028.

A half year before Mendes announced, Starr accidentally confirmed rumors that Keoghan plays it, calling for the “super” casting choice.

He added: “I think he takes somewhere in battery lessons, and I don’t hope too much.”

As for Keoghan, the actor later shared that he had not only met Starr but looked at the legendary musician in his element.

“I met him at his place and he played the battery for me,” the actor told Jimmy Kimmel in May. “He asked me to play, but I was not playing the battery for Ringo.”

Keoghan shared that he was starred in the presence of Starr, but made sure to take everything: “My job is to observe and take a little manners and study it. I want to humanize it and bring feelings and not only imitate.”
