Riviera Box Cup: Amateur boxing tournament will be streamed live on Sky Sports on August 17 | Boxing News

The final of the Riviera Box Cup will be broadcast live on Sky Sports on August 17.

The search for sport stars of the future is continuing this summer on the Côte du Devon, following Sky Sports Broadcast another prestigious amateur tournament, the Manchester Box Cup in May.

This event in the English Riviera will highlight amateur boxing talents from the region and further. Some of the best clubs in the country send teams and international participants will also compete.

The Riviera Box Cup started in 2019 and quickly gained popularity and scale since its foundation.

Mike Reardon and Darrell Asplen, who runs the amateur Boxing Club Torbay, set up the event. They founded the competition to offer opportunities to boxers in the region.

“Before there is nothing in amateur boxing for the clubs of Western counties without having to travel six hours on the highway. We installed it and it went through the roof, it is simply removed,” said Reardon.

“We named him after Darrell’s father, Sid Asplen who directed the Riviera Boxing Club in Torbay in the 60s and 70s. So it was really to honor his father who had done a lot for Devon Boxing and local boxing. This is how the Cup box took place. It was just to give local children here the opportunity.

“It just grew up from there. We didn’t know that we would do it for several years,” he added. “The first was the previous year Covid, then Covid struck and no one was boxing and in fact, we were the first amateur boxing event to pass the locking.

“He took off from the time,” said Reardon. “The demand is enormous, I think that because of the place where we are in the country, which is the English Riviera, therefore just on the seafront and the period of the year we do.”

Sky Sports“Ed Robinson said:” We had a great reaction to our recent cover of the Manchester Box Cup. Now we are turning our attention to light on another well -established and exciting international tournament with the Riviera Box Cup.

“Our thanks go to the entire Cup box and boxing team in England.”

The power of amateur boxing

Frazer Clarke, Olympic medalist and now a professional fighter, while being a Sky Sports Pundit, always follows the amateur scene closely.

He explained the power of amateur boxing.

“It’s pure,” said Clarke Sky Sports. “There are a lot of people who have done so in their own pocket, many people do not earn money, they do it because they try the lives of young people, keep them straight and narrow, give them a goal of working. So I appreciate it.”

In addition to that, he wants to look at the future of sport unfold. “I also know that the next à la carte star is in front of us somewhere,” said Clarke. “In 10 years, 15, we will look at one in Wembley or Tottenham in a massive fight, for a world title.

“They are with us, they pass in front of us. I love this element,” he added. “You just don’t know it.

“Not only that. These guys train hard, when you see joy, when you see tears, you know what it means for them. You have to respect it.”
