Rugby League bosses to meet Salford amid threats of a player protest | Rugby League News
The rugby league bosses will meet Salford Red Devils in the middle of the threats of a player demonstration during the Friday Super League match against Leeds Rhinos.
A certain number of senior players in Salford would have threatened to withdraw from the match in the middle of a renewed uncertainty surrounding the club’s financial situation.
This prompted RFL officials, led by CEO Tony Sutton, to call a meeting at the top involving all parties to the Salford Community Stadium in order to achieve a regulation that will minimize the impact on the integrity of the competition.
“We can confirm that the RFL will be part of a meeting at the club tomorrow, with the players, the club, the RFL and the RL Cares present,” said a spokesperson for the RFL.
Salford has operated according to the paralyzing regulations of the salary ceiling since the start of the season due to a process of taking control and a subsequent late payment of certain wages.
The club only won its second victory for the season over Castleford on Sunday, but new problems relating to the non-arrival of a transition loan, designed to stabilize the fate of the club up to at least the end of the season, have prompted some players to insist that it is sufficient.
The All Out Rugby League website reported that a large number of players have already informed club officials, including head coach Paul Rowley, of their intention not to make themselves available against Rhinos in Headingley.
It is more likely to be believed to be at this stage that the dead end would lead to Salford once again to make the match by calling their players from the Academy.
But after losing Jayden Nikorima, Esan Marsters and Loghan Lewis against Castleford, Salford is already seriously exhausted, and such a possibility would inevitably lead to more questions about the cut -off effects on the current campaign.
St Helens benefited from a huge boost in their point difference when they broke an inexperienced team from Salford with a record of 82-0 on the day of opening the season, and a similar score on Friday would put Leeds online to collect in the same way.
Rowley did not directly comment on the script following the victory of his team against Castleford, and Salford did not make a comment request on Tuesday.
