Ryder Cup 2025: Suzann Pettersen warns Team USA captain Keegan Bradley about splitting role with playing at Bethpage Black | Golf News
The former captain of the Solheim Cup, Suzann Pettersen, warned Keegan Bradley that she “certainly does not recommend” to divide her role as captain by playing in the Ryder Cup of this year.
Bradley moved into the world n ° 7 after his dramatic victory of the traveler championship on Sunday, his eighth title of PGA Tour and third in as many seasons, the victory also showed him ninth in the qualification classification for the team of the Ryder Cup of Team USA.
The 39 -year -old man admitted that his victory increased the possibility of becoming the first captain to play in a Ryder Cup since Arnold Palmer in 1963, although Pettersen – the captain of the European team for the two previous Solheim cuts – wondered if it would work.
“It’s a very difficult task to be a captain and play at the same time,” said Pettersen The Sky Sports golf podcast. “If you ask me – and above all be captain at home – it will be a huge pressure on Keegan Bradley to come.
“I would say that you devote yourself to being the best possible captain or that you are going to play. I know at the time, I think that Arnie [Arnold Palmer] He was the last player that the kind of captain and played, but I think time has also changed a little. I don’t see this is possible.

“He has good vice-caps that could potentially play this role, but it also removes him from being a captain. I would certainly not recommend him.”
Bradley has currently Jim Furyk, Kevin Kisner, Webb Simpson and Brandt Snedeker like his four vice-caps for this year’s competition, live from September 26 to 28 on Sky Sports, Where Team USA will seek to find the Black Bethpage Trophy after their defeat in 2023 in Rome.
He was part of the successful team of the presidents of the Presidents of the United States as a player last September, where he obtained the point which guaranteed the victory on the international team, Pettersen admitting that it will be difficult for him to decide the decision to take his role as Ryder Cup.
“I do not even recommend being vice-captain and playing, because you cannot stay focused on one thing,” added Pettersen. “If you are a player, your goal should be to bring points to the table and not worry about pairs and other internal things that take place.
“It must be difficult, because he plays the golf course of his life. He has never been classified as high, so it must be difficult to remove a hot name from the list of players. At the same time, you have to put your priorities.
“I am sure he is intelligent enough to make a good call if he will play or not, but time will be shown. But it is a great and great task of doing both simultaneously.”
Pettersen had Anna Nordqvist as vice-captain of the game during her two mandates for Team Europe, where they kept the trophy in 2023 before losing in the United States a year later, which she recognized was to be carefully managed.
“We thought that the inclusiveness leading to the week was quite important, a good experience,” said Pettersen. “Then, as the week progressed, you removed more and more pressure on this role and rather let it take the player’s position.
“In the end, you cannot get around the golf course which always has the last second discussions with each vice-captain if they literally play on the route. They have enough on their table by trying to bring their match home.
“This is literally what you are preparing your players. I know that Anna [Nordqvist, 2026 Solheim Cup captain] Now look at her vice-caps and she potentially chooses and there are certainly a lot of vice-caps potentially among current players.
“At the same time, this is what you want to leave? You don’t want to leave this responsibility with the players. It is a very nice line, but it must be the dynamics of the team and the dynamics of the captain’s team.”
