Sheffield Wednesday: Players intend to terminate contracts over unpaid wages | Football News
Several Sheffield players on Wednesday reported their intention to terminate their contracts and leave as free agents this month because of their remuneration dispute with the club, Sky Sports News understand.
The club has not paid its senior players on time for the third time in the past four months this week.
It is understood that only U21 players received their June salary on the due date.
FIFA regulations indicate that any player who has not received his salary on the correct date for two consecutive months can terminate his contract by giving his employer a written notice.
The club then has 15 days to regain control of the contract of any player by paying the pending money.
A certain number of Wednesday players would have reacted to the last delay by giving their opinions.
The association of professional footballers works in close collaboration with Wednesday players and was a regular dialogue throughout the process. His support has increased the conviction that those who want to leave will be on safe field.
The club wrote to players and staff on Monday afternoon, offering their “sincere apologies” so as not to pay them on time.
They have undertaken to make all the pending payments but have provided no warranty at the time it happens.
A source said Sky Sports News that the club aims to make these current payments during the next fortnight.
The PFA refused to comment. Sheffield Wednesday was approached to comment.
