The boiled bunny from ‘Fatal Attraction’ was real. Here are the details.

Talk about a breeding sequence!

With moviegoers anticipating the new Supermanwhich Understands a dog fully generated by computer by doing things that no canine outside Krypton could do, it is incredible to think of all the legendary animal performances in Hollywood history. There are even films that could easily have been rigged, but which were actually real for reasons that may seem bizarre. At the top of this list: the boiled rabbit in Fatal attraction.

Now, before panicking, director Adrian Lyne did not go out and does not massacre a little blurring rabbit just to ensure the likelihood of his adultery thriller in 1987. But a 2017 book on Sherry Lansing – The producer of Fatal attraction Who later became a chief of Paramount – explained how the deployment of an already dead rabbit made an unusual whole.

“Hey, my, what is dinner tonight?” – The boiling pot of “deadly attraction”.

In case you have not seen Fatal attractionWho was nominated for six Oscars, including the best film and made $ 320 million on a budget of $ 14 million, he featured Michael Douglas as husband and father who moves away from his Glenn Close wedding and schtups. Closing becomes sticky and ultimately violent. The most famous scene is that Anne Archer (playing the wife of Douglas) discovers the rabbit of the family of the boiled family in a pot.

The scene had a great social impact. The term “Bunny Couleur” was born – a Jokey term and finally sexist for a potential romantic partner with Red Flags. Whether the sequence, or the film in general, has inspired an increase in cold showers for married men is impossible to determine, but we will bet.

Anyway, Lyne told the author Stephen Galloway that he and the producers obtained a rabbit from a butcher, thinking that realism was the way to follow.

“We tried to remove his bowels to make him real,” he said, “but he had no weight. It was like a little skin. So we had to boil him with all his bowels, and the stench was beyond the belief. It probably helped Anne because the smell was so bad.”

“Kid, it is important not to get too attached to your pet.”

The stench of rabbit Carcass certainly did not hurt. Archer received an Oscar appointment for the best support actress – but lost against Olympia Dukakis for Dreamer. (Difficult break to Archer face all-time like that. Timing is all in Hollywood.)

Fatal attraction was restarted in 2023 as a series for Paramount +, with Joshua Jackson, Lizzy Caplan and Amanda Peet in the roles Douglas, Close and Archer. Recent iteration has not presented boiled, real or false rabbits.
