Why are the pairs and TEE times important to the opening?

Jamie Weir of Sky Sports News:

“They are more important to this adult than any other, simply because of the elements and the way they can wreak havoc and how unpredictable they can be.

“You can put yourself in the wrong half of the draw in an open championship, where you could play in the worst of the weather on Thursday and the worst weather on Friday.

Xander Schauffele was in the open area to reflect on his victory last year at Royal Troon, where he raised Blaret’s jug for the first time

“Someone on the other half of the draw can then play in glorious benign sunny conditions on Thursday and flat calm conditions on Friday, so it can ruin your open chances if you are on this bad side of the draw.

“Ask me to predict the weather during an open championship – and especially in this part of the world -, it’s like asking to predict that will win the Cruret’s jug, with this forecast changing all the time.”
