‘There’s no basis in fact’

It is either art imitating life or life imitating art, but Carrie Coon feels the same thing about Trump supporters as she White lotus Laurie character does it.

When Coon stopped The view Friday, she opened the way she finds it difficult to speak to people who always support President Donald Trump because she believes that there is no logic or in fact behind their opinions.

“I had family members who voted for Trump – I am Ohio, we had to have these conversations,” Coon revealed before adding, “not my immediate family”.

The golden age Star explained that she thought it is possible to be friends with Trump supporters because she is already. But when it comes to discussing current events and social problems with them, this is where it becomes impossible.

“I think it was a time when it was possible to have conversations on this subject, but when you are in an authoritarian slide, it becomes a closed system,” said Coon. “The leader is the source of information, which is not penetrable. So, when you are inside this circular information system, then it is very difficult. It is very difficult to speak of anything, because there is no basis in fact. And now we see the funding of NIH and NSF, therefore, like science, which I believe in science. There is no field of the environment.”

When asked if she thinks that Trump’s supporters will rebel against him if they were personally affected by his policies, Coon did not seem optimistic.

“I think the story is very powerful,” she said. “And it is very easy to teach them that they should blame immigrants or trans people while billionaires choose their pockets.”

During The white lotus Season 3, the character of Coon, Laurie, raised similar concerns during a clumsy dinner with her childhood friends Jaclyn (Michelle Monaghan) and Kate (Leslie Bibb) during their vacation. During episode 3, “The Meaning of Dreams”, Laurie and Jaclyn were shocked to discover that Kate had become a republican and voted for Trump – a scene that was written and shot well before Trump’s re -election.

“I have the impression that Mike had binoculars in the future because when we did it, it did not feel [timely anymore]”” Bibb previously said Weekly entertainment. “I said to myself:” We have already done so. It was in the past. “I don’t even think Trump was running when we did – it was in January or February of last year, so yes, it was quite wild.

The actors did not spend a lot of time discussing the dinner scene, in particular references to Trump, with each other during the shooting. Especially since then, at the time, it did not seem as relevant as now. “We haven’t really talked about it,” said Coon previously to EW. “Mike’s stuff is always on the page … What I like about Mike is that what he does is really Greek and really transgressive. And then he has this super relatable story on these women that I think that everyone can understand – they have all had relationships that have changed when I got older, who does not last, or who had to stay.

The Trump conversation of the toxic BFF trio was filled with a field of prohibited subjects. While discussing Kate’s increased interest in religion during dinner, Jaclyn and Laurie asked her if she felt weird to go to the church surrounded by so many Texans who voted for Trump. Kate simply replied: “They are nice people. Really good families.” Then Laurie asked if it was embarrassing when she talked about politics with them. When Kate replied, “Why would he do it?” The alarm ringtones have left for his longtime friends. “Wait, are you … a republican?” Asked a shocked Laurie. “You didn’t vote for Trump, however, right?”

Kate’s disaster and silent, stimulating, was the whole answer they needed. “Are we really going to talk about Trump tonight?” She asked after a long break. They all quickly changed the subject with more tense smiles, and later at night, Kate saw Jaclyn and Laurie laugh and speak without her, and about her. It was a direct reminder for Jaclyn and Kate chatting late at night about Laurie in a previous episode, only now the roles were reversed. The trio finally ended the season to reaffirm their friendship despite all their differences and their fights.
