Travis Kelce opens up about returning to Chiefs, spurning retirement: ‘Last year wasn’t a success for me’
The winger tight Travis Kelce played 12 seasons in the NFL and will be 36 years old in October, so that questions to know if he would return to the Chiefs of Kansas City for a 13th year was abundant. Looking at his Curriculum Vitae, Kelce did not leave much to be desired with 10 heads of Pro Bowl, four All-Pro honors as a team of the first team and three rings of the Super Bowl to his credit.
If he decided to retire, he would do it as a temple of the reputation of the first Pallot and one of the largest extremities tight of all time. But Kelce was not yet ready to leave the field.
Kelce told journalists on Wednesday that he had made the decision to return early during the offseason, saying that it was only time that had come easily.
“I love football,” said Kelce. “I don’t think I really thought about it. My friends and family and the team and the guys and the women of this building, I like to get to work every day.”
The way last season ended – a defeat of the Super Bowl against the Eagles of Philadelphia – helped him decide on his way.
“I really didn’t have the impression that it was my last game. I just felt like I had to prove much more,” Kelce said.
“It was not very difficult [decision] In my opinion. I know that I get older, but at the same time, I always feel like I have a lot of things that I can prove in this league. It was really not that difficult for me. “”

Kelce made sure to make the decision after the defeat of the defeat of the championship.
“You want to let the emotions go out,” he said. “It was the greatest thing, you don’t want to make decisions about initial emotions, but for the most part, once they are dead, I always felt like I had this fire in my chest so that I could continue to enter and build and be better and continue another Super Bowl.”
Kelce did not participate in the OTA of the Chiefs but was back in Kansas City for a compulsory mini-camp. Last year, he caught 97 assists for career stockings in Yeterneau (823) and Touches (three).
Retirement issues will not end once Kelce has confirmed that he was coming back for the 2025 season. Now the question is whether this coming season will be the last. He has a year left on his contract and seemed to suggest that he intends to play beyond this season, saying: “We will try to understand something for next year.”
“The organization of chefs knows how much I like them. I never see myself playing elsewhere, so we will manage this on the road when the moment comes. But for the moment, I focus on the victory of a championship this year,” said Kelce.
“Championship” is the main word on Kelce’s mind. Winning three since 2020 with five appearances in the general classification of the Super Bowl replaced his brain to see only success as the Lombardi trophy at the end of the season.
“I am only interested in the Super Bowl rings,” he said.
He noted that the Lamar Hunt AFC championship trophy means a lot for the team and the property, the Hunt family, but for him, this next game determines how he measures a year.
“Last year, I think I failed, especially in this last match by being a leader and to the one who can intensify and play games. So put the bar even higher for me this year than in the past,” said Kelce. “Last year was not a success for me and I am motivated to make sure we get this other ring this year.”
The chiefs are tied with the Eagles for the second best chances of winning all next year (+750), behind the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens (+700), via Fanduel Sportsbook.
