Tyson Fury could retire again next week, says heavyweight contender Fabio Wardley | Boxing News
The Mercurial Tyson Fury could retire as suddenly as he announced his return, explains Fabio Wardley, a truck competitor.
Last week, Fury, a former world heavyweight champion, canceled his retirement decision and said he would return in 2026 to target a trilogy fight with Oleksandr Usyk.
Wardley d’Ipswich, now the interim WBA titlist, is professional in the upper end of the heavyweight division. But he retains a dose of skepticism with regard to the last U-turn of Fury, the former world champion who announced his retirement several times.
“I never know what to believe with him,” said Wardley Sky Sports News. “I never know what to believe because I would not be surprised if next week, he says” you know what I cannot be disturbed, I am withdrawn again “.
“I will believe it when maybe we are a week or two or I see a press conference. I don’t know with him sometimes. If it comes off and we get the trilogy, it would be fantastic.”
Wardley intends to make his way through the WBA championship levels. He wants to win their “regular” belt before fighting for the “Super” WBA championship, the world title that Usyk currently has.
“I don’t think I’m far away. I’m not a fool, I’m not an idiot. I understand that there is still a lot of learning to do for me,” Wardley said, who recently beat Justis Huni in Portman Road in June.
“It was not going in my way [against Huni] And I had to learn in the moment, in the fight. I had to do all my learning and all my experience in front of the crowd, in front of thousands of fans.
“I always learn, I am always gathering everything, but I think that in a fight or two, I will have enough and I will have what it takes to conquer for a world title.”
He expects the Usyk to be the undisputed champion again after having faced Daniel Dubois of London in a revenge later this month.
“I find it very difficult to bet against him,” said Wardley about the Usyk. “I do nine times out of 10 back the British, I always want to see a British victory, I always want to see the belts come back to the ground at home.
“But the form in which he is, the way he goes about his work, he seems a little undeniable at the moment.
“He is on a kind of mission that will simply not be stopped, will not be derailed. So in one way or another, I think he always finds a means.”
The finals of the Riviera Box Cup will be broadcast live Sky Sports August 17.
