Luke Littler and Luke Humphries reached the quarter -finals of the Masters BET365 US Darts, while the title champion Rob Cross and the seeded Stephen Bunting crashed during the opening evening in New York.
The world champion Littler raised the roof at the Théâtre du Madison Square Garden by sealing his 6-1 victory against Jules Van Dongen with a box of 120 of three double tops, creating the World Series of Darts Finals Champion of the final of a quarter-final meeting with Nathan Aspinall.
The Humphries of the world n ° 1 came from 4-3 against Stowe Buntz to win 6-4 and avoid a third American triumph of the first round on Friday, after seeing Danny Lauby and Jason Brandon enjoy the biggest victories of their careers respectively by a cross and a superb passages respectively.
Lauby finished the defense of the cross title with a magnificent 6-0 laundering with the winner of the Masters Darts of 2024, with an average of 94 and the follow-up of an anterior cash register of 118 with an 11-darter to close an impressive display.
“It was incredible,” said Lauby, who had lost in the first round in her three previous appearances of Masters of American Darts. “Each victory is difficult; I have not had much experience on stage this year, so there are only positive points.
“I know how good Rob is and he didn’t play his standard and I was lucky to enjoy. I’m really happy and I can’t wait for Saturday.”
Lauby is joined in the last stages of Saturday evening from Brandon, who saw Bunting 6-4. Brandon had lost 6-2 to cross his television debut in New York two years ago, but challenged a 170 bunting box to close the victory this time with an average of 97.
“It’s my biggest victory – I find it hard to find the words,” said Brandon, who exchanged plans to celebrate Saturday wedding anniversary in the Turks & Caicos islands after qualifying for the event.
“My goal was to come here and get a little redemption two years ago – I don’t know how I kept it together but I was able to focus. I feel much better in my darts now that I did not come to the event. I am ready for tomorrow.”
