‘Weapons’ director explains kids’ running pose in horror movie (exclusive)

Horror director Zach Cregger does not always have the kinds of answers that will satisfy his audience, who are often prey to questions at the end of his films. This is what makes his work just as frustrating and stimulating.

As WeaponsHer new film released on August 8 about 17 children in a suburb of Pennsylvania who all left their respective homes at the same time one night and never returned. What does this title mean?

“My wife told me that her friend called and was:” Do you know that the etymology of this word means “light weapons”? “Think about it for a second,” Cregger shares with Weekly entertainment. “It’s crazy. So I’m like, Here we go. I don’t know what else we are going to find. And it’s just from people analyzing the teaser. “”

Congger, however, shares some ideas on a particular inspiration. When the children of Weapons Wake up from their beds and run in the night, they do it with their two arms that rushed on each side. Other characters, including the role of Benedict Wong, are also seen in the trailers at different times in a similar way.

This style of running “was right there” since the start of his writing process, known as Cregger, although he mentions the historical photography of “Girl of Napalm”, an obsessive image of children who were crying in Vietnam fleeing an attack on napal during the war.

“From the first moment, I said to myself:” And they run like that, “continues Cregger. “There is this terrible photo of this girl in Vietnam with napalm burn. I think this image is so horrible, and the way she holds her arms just killed me. I think there is something really overwhelming in this posture. If I had to guess, it may be where they come from.

Weapons Stars Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Amy Madigan and Wong.

Ms. Justine Gandy (Garner), primary school teacher, one day comes to school to find that each child in her class, with the exception of one, is absent. Cregger had a similar experience Barbarous The public theorizing more clever explanations for certain elements, including the title. This 2022 film, which put it on the map as a creator to watch, started with a woman arriving at her airbnb to find her already occupied, only for the horror after the horror to take place overnight.

“One of my favorite things on Barbarous Have all these people posed all of this really incredible and intelligent information on the title that had not come to mind, “admits Cregger.” I didn’t know, even when I was shooting Barbarousthat this word is an anagram of Airbnb. It didn’t come to mind. “”

Another public theory suggested Barbarous Referred to the pejorative term used by the ancient Romans for the Gauls. “They thought their language looked like” bar, bar, bar, bar, bar. “So they called them barbarians,” said Cregger. “The only thing the mother says in this film is” bar, bar, bar, bar, bar “. I didn’t know that.
