“We have never really obtained these partnerships,” said Skipper Chase. “The new ball was the biggest challenge – we have lost too many counters. If we could avoid a few counters in the first 10 to 15 Overs, we would have a better chance.

“Two hundred and seventy have always been a difficult task.”

How Australia ended the victory of the series against the Antilles

Hazlewood struck his fifth delivery, trapping John Campbell LBW for a duck, while Starc withdrew Keacy Carty for 10 so that visitors have an ideal start.

The dismissal of Chase on the lunch blow effectively put an end to all the realistic hopes of a recovery of the Antilles, although Alzarri Joseph struck the six against Nathan Lyon and Shamar Joseph struck three maximum in his 24 before the couple were both rejected.

“We had to graft our way in both games,” said Cummins. “I am quite proud. The new ball was quite delicate for the two teams. The terrain deteriorated a little, so it became a little simpler for our plans. We hit the ball of good zones after the ball, and we waited for the game to happen.”

The third and last test match of the series begins in Kingston, Jamaica, before a T20I series of five games begins at the same place on July 20.
