What that cliffhanger means for Carmy

This article contains spoilers for the final of season 4 of The bear.

The bear I just served another cliffhanger, but the potential end of the award -winning series is starting to take shape.

Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) spent season 4 to heal his psychological trauma – he finally sat with his mother, Donna (Jamie Lee Curtis), for an emotional meeting; He learned to kiss peace on chaos; And he worked hard to repair all the fractured relationships in his life, including with his ex Claire (Molly Gordon). But all this healing led to his shocking decision to leave the bear.

Yes, chef – After all his tireless work creating the restaurant of his dreams, he already plans to leave! The final spent a large part of the time with Sydney (Ayo Edebiri) and Richie (Ebon Moss -Bachrach) while they know the five stages of sorrow – and a whole cigarette pack – after discovering that Carmy wanted to leave. He promised them that they would both remain until the restaurant does not withdraw (and without the knowledge of one of them, they could also be about to finally obtain their Michelin star). But once the future of the bear is stable, it is absent.

What will he do after that? Well, continue his healing journey – in any form. Carmy told Sydney that he no longer likes to be a chef, and he does not know who he is outside the kitchen. There is so much pain, anxiety and toxicity wrapped in what was his passion, and he wants freedom to understand his life without being linked to the restaurant. This is why he changed the partnership agreement to withdraw his name from the contract – and agreed to add the name of Richie.

Carmy has another bomb for Richie and Sydney: he didIn fact, attending the funeral of his brother Mikey (Jon Bernthal). He just couldn’t resolve to enter the building.

Richie was absolutely finished with this confession because all this time, he thought that Carmy was blamed him So as not to have been able to help Mikey when he was still alive. Richie had the impression that he had failed because he could not bring Mikey to talk to anyone about his problems. At this stage, tears flowed, then Natalie (Abby Elliott) joined the party, so the emotional catharsis struck its peak.

When Natalie learned the two major information – Carmy will leave, and he went to Mikey’s funeral – everyone has grown, and it seemed that things went to a positive place despite Carmy’s plans. But the seaside clock of the season finally struck zero, which means that the disturbing deadline of uncle Jimmy (Oliver Platt) has arrived.

Introduced during the first of season 4, the Doomsday clock was the UNC’s response to the restaurant’s negative exam (finally, we learned that the title was “missing bear necessities: the bear stumbled with culinary dissonance”). The UNC has stated very clearly to the team: “When this clock shows zero, this restaurant must stop operations.” The only way to keep the bear alive is if it becomes profitable … or if it gets a Michelin star.

A mysterious dinner that appreciated his meal earlier in the season seemed to be involved that a star could be incoming, and the beef sandwich window continues to grow more and more profitable (especially if they successfully cross it as they plan). But for the moment, they are not time.

The bear has not yet been renewed for a fifth season, so there is no guarantee that we will discover what will happen next. But if the show returns, it could cook a possible end of history. Imagine: Carmy leaves after the restaurant has obtained a Michelin star, UNC agrees to keep it open because the Sandwich Counter franchise also makes a huge profit, and everyone gets their happiness forever.

Of course, this show has never been predictable. This could continue for many, many other seasons (it is a mastodon of popular reward, after all) and even take an extremely different turning point that no one sees coming. But it is not difficult to see how The bear could finally end after this revealing final.

Let’s just hope that the show offers a deliciously satisfactory dessert at the end of the meal before getting there.
