Who is Jane Doe — and who killed her?

The show features Eric Bana in the role of Kyle Turner, an experienced agent of the Directorate of Investigation Services of the National Park Service (ISB), parked in Yosemite. Turner, who is struggling with a few demons, is drawn in the twisted case of an unidentified Jane Doe whose body is at the bottom of El Capitan, the famous cliff of 3000 feet of Yosemite.
While Turner’s work consists in discovering the truth, the case drags it far beyond the standard investigation, deeply in the distant desert of the park and its own troubled past.
So who was this Jane Doe? What really happened on the cliff? We break down these questions and the end of Savage below.
Who is Jane Doe?

Turner’s partner, Naya Vasquez (Lily Santiago), a former LAPD officer who is now a Ranger Rookie Park, discovers the mystery of Jane Doe’s identity. The deceased daughter is Lucy Cook, a young woman who disappeared from Yosemite in 2012 and has a died of disappeared persons in the park archives.
Later, we discover that Lucy was the daughter of the boss of Turner, Paul Souter (Sam Neill). The child of a case, Paul says that he only learned after the death of Lucy’s mother. Paul had kept the secret of his family and gave Lucy to a foster family known to “keep secrets”.
But it turned out to be an abusive cleaning, and when Lucy returned to Paul to get help, he was insensitive, frightened to be released for the case, which, according to him, could endanger his work and his family. Due to her refusal to help, Lucy found himself mixed with a local drug smuggler, Shane Maguire (Wilson Bethel).

While Paul didn’t want to kill Lucy, he did inadvertently leads to his death. He denied his involvement at first, but finally confessed under pressure from Turner.
According to Paul, Lucy had started to ask her regularly money, describing “all the ways she could hurt me”. The situation has intensified, the price increasing each visit. Soon, he says, she started to threaten her family. “She just wanted me to feel the same pain as I put it through,” he said.
This led Paul to try to chase it with a gun. He shot her on the leg – accidentally, he said – then lost it in the park. In a flashback, we see an injury and pain, Lucy throw herself from the top of El Capitan.
Paul insists that he never wanted her to die; He “wanted her to know that I had to protect my family”. Turner reminds Paul that Lucy was also the family.
Paul, overwhelmed by guilt, offers to help reintegrate Turner, who has been suspended and keep it in the park. While Turner rejects the offer and moves away, Paul commits suicide and falls into the river below.
What is the truth about Caleb’s death – and what happened to his killer?

The final also includes revelations on the death of Turner’s son, Caleb, who was murdered in the park five years earlier, and how it led to the end of his marriage to Jill (Rosemarie Dewitt).
In the episode, Jill opens to her husband, Scott (Josh Randall), on what happened. She explains that a man by the name of Sean Sanderson murdered the little boy in the park.
They learned Sanderson’s involvement thanks to the movement cameras installed in the park by Maguire. After seeing the images, Maguire brought him to Jill and Turner, asking for their permission to let him kill Sanderson.
But Turner insisted to manipulate it by the book, requiring absolute certainty before arising. Jill, on the other hand, wanted justice.
“Without saying to Kyle, I paid in Shane to contact Sanderson, to make him sing, to meet him in the park and to kill him for having murdered my child,” Jill told Scott, who is speechless. “Kyle only discovered when Sanderson was missing. I think that, more than anything, more than losing Caleb, it was I betraying Kyle who ended us. He could not exceed it.”
What happens at the end of Savage?

Turner, who hallucinated Caleb in the years that followed his murder, has a final vision of the boy. He tells Caleb that it is time to leave Yosemite, but assures him that he will always be with him, no matter where life takes him.
While the series is coming to an end, Turner leaves Vasquez his horse, as well as a box of Caleb toy cars for his son. The series ends with Turner while descending quietly from the park, leaving behind the place that shaped him.
Will there be a season 2 of Savage?

When writing these lines, Netflix has not yet renewed Savage For a second season. The series has been labeled as a mini-series, which generally suggests a unique format.
However, Netflix is known to renew limited series in the past, especially Observer,, BeefAnd, more recently, The four seasons.
