Willie Mullins pays tribute to Kevin Prendergast – ‘A giant of the game’ | Racing News
Willie Mullins added her tribute to Kevin Prendergast after the death of the classic multiple trainer on Friday at the age of 92.
PREDERGAST – Son of the legendary Paddy ‘Darkie’ Prendergast – was an extremely popular and respected figure, winning the last of its classic successes with Awtaad in the 2,000 Irish Guinea in 2016.
“I was sorry to hear about Kevin talking. He was a great coach, who has always had a word for you,” said Mullins, the national reigning champion Hunt Trainer in Ireland and Great Britain.
“He had an opinion on everything and this opinion was appreciated by people because he had experienced it, he knew the good days and he knew the bad days.
“He was a great character who we will miss a lot. An appropriate giant of the game, he did the hard work and he knew everything about the game.”
Former coach Mick Halford, who now represents Joseph O’Brien on Racecourses, said: “Kevin was a master on curragh when I started. He was someone I always looked at, his horses were always a credit.
“He was a great man to talk to, a great man for advice, and for a little slag!”
“He was an adorable man and I had a lot of time for him, and we will unfortunately miss it about Curragh.
“He led a full life, he was an excellent example for all of us.”
