Wimbledon: Jannik Sinner cancels practice session ahead of quarter-final amid elbow injury fears | Tennis News
Jannik Sinner, n ° 1, canceled a training session on Wednesday before his quarter -final of Wimbledon, in the midst of fearing that his tournament could be highlighted by an elbow injury.
The 23 -year -old Italian injured his elbow after slipping on the baseline in the first match of his fourth round match with Grigor Dimitrov on Monday evening.
The sinner went to the last eight despite the 6-3 7-5 2-2 follow-up against the 19th Bulgarian seeded, which had to retire after undergoing an apparent pectoral injury.
But Sinner, who himself needed a medical dead time during the second set, later revealed that he would need an MRI on his right elbow on Tuesday.
He suffered the scan in the morning and a training session scheduled at 4 p.m. on the Aorangi park in Wimbledon was then canceled.
“It was a pretty unhappy fall,” said Sinner on Monday evening after his match. “I checked the videos a little, and it didn’t seem difficult, but I always felt it a lot, especially on the service and the forehand.
“I could feel it. So let’s see. Tomorrow we will check how it is, and then we see.
“Tomorrow, we will check with MRI to see if there is something serious, then we will try to adjust it.”
Sinner, a triple Grand Chelem champion, is expected to play the 10th American seeded Ben Shelton in the second game on Court One on Wednesday afternoon.
His best career race in Wimbledon came at the end of the semi-finals in 2023, losing in two sets against Novak Djokovic, to whom he could potentially face at the same stadium this year.
